400 years of viticulture history with exceptional winemaking
If the vine has been an inherent part of the family know-how since the 17th century, it was in the early 1930s that Désiré and Gilbert Penet decided to create their first sparkling wines.
In the early 1940s , Emile, son of Gilbert, developed the business by buying a 19th century mansion including one of the most majestic vaulted cellars in Verzy and modernized the operation in the 1950s with the purchase of the first village tractor.

In 1967 , Christian Penet married Marie-Louise Chardonnet, whose family has also been farming vines for 400 years in the neighboring village, Verzenay. With their union, the family business grew to reach 6 hectares of Grand Cru vines: this was the birth of the Penet-Chardonnet Champagne brand.
Our Vineyard

A viticulture that respects the Terroir and the environment,
in the heart of an exceptional vineyard
An exceptional Terroir
Our vineyard is located exclusively in the Montagne de Reims, in two villages classified as Grand Cru: Verzy and Verzenay.
Our 6 ha of vines are mainly cultivated in Pinot Noir (2/3 of the grape variety) but also in Chardonnay (1/3 of the grape variety).

The recognition of varied Terroirs

Place called “Les Fervins”
If the art of Champagne is the art of assembling grapes from different sites, we are nevertheless supporters of a singular approach: the recognition of the particularities of each of our plots or "localities", whose varied exposures and the diversity of the subsoils give our wines revealing identities of our Terroir.
Respect for the land
Acknowledging that our Terroirs is a guarantee for the quality of wine, so we have to work with vines in a way that respects nature.
We have therefore adopted a reasoned and sustainable viticulture approach, without chemical fertilizers, herbicides or insecticides, by working the soil, in order to respect the cycle of nature and its biodiversity.
